Overview
RF4 provides a wide ecosystem of regions, maps, gear, and community sourced data. The content below preserves the original material, data points, and practical setups for players seeking to understand the game mechanics, gear wear, lure crafting, bait making, and region specific insights. The compilation includes links to external resources, patch history, and community testing notes that verify gear values, fish weights, and region specifics. The information is organized to enable recreating setups, understanding asset valuations, and applying practical fishing strategies across multiple RF4 locations. The initial sections list important links and region names that appear repeatedly in community guides and translated data sheets. The following are top level region references and names you will encounter:

All info pulled from translations of rf4.info/en/ and testing by ItsBlunty to confirm and get english bottom names. The list above appears repeatedly as region anchors for map references and trophy inventories across community wikis and beginner guides.
Region Maps and Regions
RF4 region maps are used to identify water bodies, shorelines, and biome zones such as clay, sand, mud, and weed patches. The maps include color legends showing soil composition and water depth markers. Typical map features highlight the following water types and zones:
- Mosquito Lake
- Winding Rivulet
- Old Burg
- Belaya River
- Kuori Lake
- Bear Lake
- Volkhov River
- Seversky Donets River
- Sura River
- Ladoga Lake
- The Amber Lake
- Ladoga Archipelago
- Akhtuba River
- Lower Tunguska River
- Yama River
(Region cards and visual overlays provide a quick visual cue for where clay, sand, mud, weed morphologies dominate and where fish may react differently to bait placement.)
The images below depict representative layouts for Mosquito Lake, Winding Rivulet, Old Burg, Belaya River, Kuori Lake, and Bear Lake, together with cross references for the map legend colors and water features. These visuals assist players in planning casts and bait placement around weed patches and weed-free channels.
[Region image gallery would appear here in the original document; the following blocks enumerate region names and map topics that were present in the source content.]
- Mosquito Lake – map with clay, sand, mud overlays and weed zones.
- Winding Rivulet – map with pebble, clay and weed zones for navigation.
- Old Burg – coastal feature with island and shore patterns.
- Belaya River – river bend with colored overlays for texture types.
- Kuori Lake – lake map with shoreline and weed distribution.
- Bear Lake – lake map with weed concentrations and sand areas.
- Volkhov River – river confluence map with multiple color zones.
- Seversky Donets River – river map with bends and weed patches.
- Sura River – river map with banks and vegetation zones.
- Ladoga Lake – large lake map with weed, sand, and pebble overlays.
- The Amber Lake – lake map with varied textures and weed patterns.
- Ladoga Archipelago – island cluster map with islets and weed zones.
- Akhtuba River – river map with mixed bed textures.
- Lower Tunguska River – river map featuring weed clusters.
- Yama River – map section with bends and weed cues.
Visual note: the rf4 community frequently uses the maps for regional tournament planning and to estimate trophy weights per region. The color legend often denotes clay, sand, sand-pebble, weed, and shell overlays, which helps in predicting fish aggression and feeding zones.
Starting Sets for Beginners
Starting players in RF4 typically aim to acquire three setups to complete cafe orders and generate stable silver. The core approach is to use the free gear available to a new player and to focus on three bottom setups or three float setups. The following are example setups that reflect the common early-step gear paths:
Option #1 - Bottom Rods
Bottom Rod #1
- Sorento FD100 37.80
- Spark 2000S Free 1x Free with new player spin setup
- Mesh Feeder #4 2.90
- Express Fishing Super Line - 7lb Free 1x Free with new player spin setup
- Syberia CHK101 - S14 Free 1x Free in new player inventory
- Twin Bells - FA 2.90
- Total 43.60
Bottom Rod #2
- Sorento FD100 37.80
- Spark 2 2000S 8.50
- Mesh Feeder #4 2.90
- Express Fishing Super Line - 7lb Free 1x Free with new player float setup
- Syberia CHK101 - S16 Free 1x Free in new player inventory
- Twin Bells - FA 2.90
- Total 52.10
Bottom Rod #3
- Sorento FD100 37.80
- Spark 2 2000S 8.50
- Mesh Feeder #4 2.90
- Express Fishing Super Line - 7lb 4.00
- Express Fishing Stinger Orig - S14 Free 1x Free in new player inventory
- Twin Bells - FA 2.90
- Total 56.10
Note: Bells are technically optional but are very cheap. For an extreme cheap start you can visit the administration building and press J to get a free Vyatka-2 Reel. This reel comes damaged and is not worth repairing but will work as a 2.25 kg drag reel, though it makes a lot of noise. If you wait 24 hours and store the reel in your house, you can get a second one for free. This is one of the cheapest possible ways to start feeder fishing. Upgrade later when you can afford it; upgrading is not generally worth it early on.
Map Data: Regions and Weights
Below is a subset of the water-body weight data and region mapping found in the source document. The data lists various regions and the typical weights and tonnage observed for fish species across those regions, including freshwater bodies, rivers, and seas. The values include weight ranges (low/high), counts, and category notes. The weight values reflect the relative size of commonly encountered species per region and are intended as rough guides for early game planning.
- Norwegian Sea – American Plaice, Arctic Skate, Atlantic Halibut, Atlantic Herring, Atlantic Mackerel, Atlantic Redfish, Atlantic Saury, Atlantic Wolffish, Beaked Redfish, Blue Ling, etc.
- Copper Lake – Perch, Ruffe, Bream, Mirror Carp, F1, Dinks Mirror, Ide, Bleak, Kvolsdorfsky Tench, Pike, Chub, etc.
- Elk Lake – Gizzard Shad, Warmouth, White Crappie, Bluegill, Walleye, Black Crappie, Freshwater Drum
- And many more for other lakes and rivers. This data mirrors the large, community-sourced tables for weights and regions and is often used for quick reference when planning long trips to multiple map spots.
Note: This data is commonly shared across RF4 wikis and community forums to help players estimate fish weights and map-specific hotspots.

Gear Wear and the % Formula
How is gear wear calculated? It is not officially published, however RF4 community has developed a formula that approximates wear. The formula is:
(0.3 X) + (1 - Y) (X - (0.3 * X))
Where X is Max Strength in kg and Y is percent wear in decimal (for example 40% wear is 0.40).
This wear formula applies to rod blanks and reel mechanisms; other gear wears linearly. To use this in your own copy of the data, copy and edit values locally.

General FAQ Sources
Skill Percentage Effects - Which Bonuses Are Better? - Can You Go Over 100% Skill?
+ x% to a skill tree is better than + x to a specific skill. All of the bonuses gained are small, so a +2 bonus to specific rig is small and limited to just that rig and ONLY for size.
+ x% to the skill tree effects all rigs and has effects on bite rate and size but is also small. Let's say a low level player has invested points in basic bottom fishing, and a high level player has done the same - the high level player still consistently will come out on top even using the same gear because the overall skill in the tree is generally higher. This is why we limit some competitions to levels in a certain range - to mitigate that factor and make the competition a bit more fair. Still being in the right place, at the right time, in the right conditions, with the correct gear and bait is a much stronger factor in catching fish than any of the above. - https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/22581-110-bottom/&do=findComment&comment=56381
Q: Haveing 100% bottom and a rod that gives +2 to a skill, is that rod better than a rod that gives 10% to bottom if u already have 100% in bottom?
A: The 10% is a superior boost. - https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/22581-110-bottom/&do=findComment&comment=52249
Handmade Lures vs Store-Bought Lures
"Some handmade lures will be better quality than store purchased lures. Some handcrafted lures will be cheaper than lures you purchase through the stores, when they share the same quality. And with the ability to craft your own lures, you can also make lures with a coloring you cannot get through the stores. Store lures will not become redundant though, as some people will rather choose not to craft their own lures. Or they want a quick and easy ready-to-go lure instead of going through the extra time to craft one."
Basically there is no specific way to answer this. In some situations handmade lures will work better, in other instances store bought lures may work better. Handmade lures can work very well, but only you can decide if the investment is worthwhile for you. Using the method outlined here, it is really not that great an expense. If you find that it is, many players have the skills and are normally more than willing to make lures for you if you send them the materials. - Crucian - https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26191-guide-lure-making-power-leveling/&do=findComment&comment=59244
Does the Look of a Handmade Lure Matter or Only the Quality Rating?
The looks have no effect on the effectiveness only the number matters. - Crucian - RF4 Discord - https://discord.com/channels/406518430368399371/406632653140525067/905525240346607616
"The looks are independent, and random. It will perform as a 9/10. As for the 10/10 they should not look bad. If you have an actual example of a 10/10 lure that was crafted with a bad look, please provide it. Once again, lures that are less than perfect will have different 'defects' in their visual display, but will perform based on their quality level. When creating self-made baits of the same quality, up to 9/10, we can get different variants of their appearance. Does the catch generation system consider such baits to be the same or different? Answer: Baits of different appearance are different for the generation system. https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/31019-dev-qa-2023-ru-region-translation/#comment-65858
How is gear wear calculated?
It's not officially published, however the RF4 Community has developed a formula for it. You can use the formula (0.3 X)+(1-Y) (X-(0.3 * X)). X is Max Strength in kg - Y is percent of wear in decimal (40% = 0.4)
How are skills that effect bigger fish, versus ones that increases trophy chance, different?
"All conditions being equal, meaning the rig is being used in the best possible situation, they all mean that you have a chance of catching bigger fish, not necessarily trophies. Basically the best possible situation for slider, versus the best possible situation for fixed, they would have the same boost. The general meaning is by increasing your chance of catching bigger fish, you also increase your chance of catching trophies. I hope this clears it up a little bit. " https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/22633-float-skill-tree/&do=findComment&comment=52313
China and Russia always seem to get the best trophies, are the regions different?
"All the in game regions are running on the same server, software and are using the same scripts, settings etc. The only difference is game language, regional records, regional chats, sometimes different events, competitions and support provided for players in the regional language. There is NO difference between regions in regard to game difficulty, possibility of catching trophy fish, amount of fish, fish migrations, fish preferences etc." - Lepin - RF4 Discord - https://discord.com/channels/406518430368399371/704848344195006474/1240956531508379748
How do I level my skills faster?
You can do the following to improve your chances at a skillup: 1. Premium time 2. Happy hour, doubles the premium time bonus 3. Catch a variety of fish and sizes 4. Use the latest rigs on the skill you are leveling 5. If one skill stalls, try using another for a while. - Elwoodiath - RF4 Discord - https://discord.com/channels/406518430368399371/406632653140525067/1159682767643226203
Does Logging Out Re-Populate or Reset The Fish?
It never did, It is a myth. Regarding the second thing https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/14570-faq-gameplay/ - Lepin - RF4 Discord - https://discord.com/channels/406518430368399371/406632653140525067/1248196022623014923
Does Logging Out Reset Feeding The Water?
Nope, It does not clear your feeding area, source: https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/14570-faq-gameplay/ https://discord.com/channels/406518430368399371/406632653140525067/1257404270303645787
"overfeeding effect and feeding area are not the same thing though? or are they?"
If you have overfed, then this groundbait is in your feeding area in your case I have used this phrase interchangeably.
Does Boat Noise Effect Trolling?
Increased the wariness of shy fish species to the presence of a running motor. To improve your results when trolling for cautious fish, increase your casting distance. https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/31062-patchnotes-28062023/
The wariness of fish species to the presence of a running boat motor nearby has been reduced. https://rf4game.com/forum/index.php?/topic/31330-patchnotes-2012/
