Dino Overhaul X 2 takes the best of vanilla Ark Survival Ascended experiences and enhances them to be far more complex, indepth, challenging, and most importantly rewarding. This is accomplished by taking the best parts of PvP/E and integrating it into a PvE environment where wild dinos present an ever growing challenge. Critical thinking, preparation, execution, are intriguing parts of PvP, this concept must be applied to progress.
Balance: Each dino's drag weight, damage, speed, movement, step height, climb angles, knockback, etc has been reworked and in some cases bite range/radius has been redone to better bring the full spectrum of dino variance more in line with expected results.
Taming: Firing a poison tipped arrow or dart 3in deep into a desired dino is a thing of the past, you will have to earn the desired dinos respect, to do this you can either hand feed non aggressive/skiddish dinos their favorite berries, meats, kibbles, or drop those items nearby (within 20m). More aggressive dinos hand feeding them might be a steep challenge without ghillie or some form of concealing buff if at all; dropping food nearby may be the only way. Handfeeding offers greater taming effectiveness and preferred when possible. NOTE: While handfeeding is recommened for non aggressive dinos, dropping taming food may be the only way for many other potential tames, be aware that dropped taming food requires x2-3 the amount of hunting experience but does tame much quicker than handfeeds.
Taming (Hunting XP): For the above taming methods to work, you must first have enough "Hunting Experience", 2% of the total required taming affinity will be subtracted from your total accumulated "Hunting Experience" pool. For example if taming a level 100 Turtle is 4000 affinity then it will cost 80 XP per feeding. NOTE: Once dino starts taming from food stack, aggro range is reduced by 75%. NOTE: - If your desired tame sustains "ANY" form of damage, taming will be canceled/non responsive ignoring any types of food offered for 2 min!
Stats: Dino's fall into 3 catagories: Agile/Strong/Tough, each catagory has its own advantage, there is no specific indicator for which dino falls into which specific catagory, instead as you level it will become apparent based on how much the % gain is per point given into a stat catagory. Agile: Greater stamina gain, low health gain % per point, fastest health, stamina, and torpidity recovery Strong: Greater melee gain, balanced health gain % per point, slowest health, stamina, and torpidity recovery Tough: Balanced melee/stamina gain, greater health gain % per point, balanced health, stamina, and torpidity recovery
Trait Gaining ROE
--Passive--
Traits Passive: Are a core mechanic of progression and offer a ton of versatility in the form of speed, melee, and damage reduction. Trait are earned through damage taken, actively killing, given directly through genetic strings and or elixirs. Unique/Unique Wild (U/UW) traits are earned after receiving 3 natural triats or 3 artifical traits, to earn U/UW your dino must take damage while in battle until the trait appears. NOTE: well over a dozen genetic types exist to enhance or detract from build progression, additionally traits can be stacked making them additive or multiplicitive. NOTE: Not to be confused with "Temporary Traits" which are gained for a short duration of time while in battle. --Active--
Traits Active: Killed dino must be no more than -50 Dragweight below your attacking dinos Dragweight for a chance to gain a "TRAIT" a. When slayed dino is below your Dragweight up to -50, your trait gaining chance is decreased by ~25% Unless +35 or more levels higher than your tame! b. If slayed dino is within 50 levels of your tame (rule a. still applies), chances to gain a trait is increased by 50% or if within -50 Dragweight and +35 or more levels higher than your tame! c. If BOSS, ~66% change to gain a trait and if within 50 levels of BOSS the above listed applies NOTE: Traits can be extracted SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFO!
IMPORTANT: - Do not give your tame any (A) Traits if you plan to gain 3 natural traits as your (A) traits count towards the 3 natural trait limit! Give (A) traits AFTER you are finished with natural trait gaining! ------------ Elusive / Overcharge
Loss of Control ------------- Overcharge / Elusive
Tier 4-5 Wild Mega has a chance at becomeing Elusive/Overcharged or BOTH! Elusive -- Benefits the Wild Mega Overcharge -- Benefits the Wild Mega Pygmy Trait Calculations Explained
Trait calculations explained for Prime/Mega Pygmy Prime pygmies do not receive the same health increase but instead "roll %" value is based on their "drag weight" (Ex: Prime Pygmy Raptor has a default non pygmy drag weight of "140" and a Prime Pygmy Spino has a default non pygmy drag weight of "550". Cacluated as: (drag weight 0.01)(0.05) so a "drag weight" raptor: (1400.01)(0.05) = +7% maxium roll value with a mimum flat roll value for all pygmies of 5%. So the raptors roll range is between 5-7% and the spino is between 5-27.5% --
(NOTE: Same applies to Mega Pygmies, meaning this happens at both the Prime and Mega stages).
Evolution NOTE: Use a modded spyglass such as "Awesome Spyglass or Super Spyglass" which shows additional buff information, this information is vital when determining power/tier level of a boss! Basic Dinos: Basic* does "NOT" evolve beyond what you tame it at, best used for early game farming
- AB Variant: ALL maps have a 10% chance to spawn "Aberration" variants of DOX dinos (NOTE: Limited to vanilla types, meaning there is no AB Rex), AB variants have 50% increased extra damage and gain 20% increase to base health when tamed! Unique Dinos: Basic* with a unique trait, best used for early game farming, does "NOT" evolve
Alpha Dinos: Does evolve up to "Mega", must gain 3 traits before dino has a chance at becoming unique (NOTE: gaining traits naturally requires taking damage, receiving "Mismatch" buff by fighting dinos significantly below your weight class prevents trait chance)
Prime Dinos: Cannot be tamed, must be evolved up from "Unique Alpha" NOTE: This evo stage requires 3 given or gained traits in battle (from sustained damage), continue battling to earn your U/UW trait, once earned its time for Prime, feed your Unique Alpha Dino a Prime Genetic String! NOTE: - Wild Primes can roll up to 50x on base melee Mega Dinos: Cannot be tamed, must be evolved up from "Prime" NOTE: Can be immediately give to any Prime Dino!
Tiers: 1-5
(ONLY APPLIES TO WILD DINOS) ----------is an idicator of power, with each increased tier you will face a tougher foe with better loot---------- NOTE: - Wild Megas can roll up to 100x on base melee NOTE: - Wild Golden Megas "always" roll 100x on base melee NOTE: - Wild Mega Champions can roll up to 250x on base melee Primordial Dinos: Rewards from Primordial Bosses mimics same abilities as boss counterpart, can gain all previous evolutions
IMPORTANT: - Uber Primordials gain DMG/DR as they kill you, your tames, or minions! Pygmies: Very powerful passive/active shoulder pets, when given/earned enough traits they can significantly increase your dinos power! NOTE: Pygmies drag weight is 50, allowing easy natural trait earning!
Legacy Alpha Dino / Evo: Legacy Compies can be used as a summoning vessel to receive random Legacy Dinos at the cost of 5 legacy genetic string and 1 legacy compy, see further information below about legacy dinos and how to to tame/obtain them!
Items & Consumables
REMINDER: Natural Traits are earned while taking damage, they are the most preferred over (A) artificial traits which only give 1/2 value Genetic String: Most common of the genetic line, found on Alpha and greater. Used for crafting items or given to a dino of your choosing, gaining a random "desirable or undesirable" artificial trait. Superior Genetic String: Common, gained from Alpha and greater. Used for crafting items or given to a dino of your choosing, gaining a random "desirable trait". Prime Genetic String: Rare, gained from Prime and greater. Used for crafting items or given to an Alpha dinos with the "U" + "UW" traits. Permanently increases health by 50%. (see Prime Trait Types) Mega Genetic String: Rare, gained from Megas and greater. Used for crafting advanced items or given to a Prime dino, permanantly increases health by another 50% along with increasing various dino functionality such as: Balanced = "Step Height" by 30%, Runner = "Climb Angle" by 10% & Mitigates up to 85% of all damage, Tough = Cannot be "Torpid", or Juggernaut = "Ignores all immobilizing traps". (see Mega Trait Types) NOTE: Mega pygmies do no receive the same health increase or additive ability such as "step height" but instead "roll %" value based on their "drag weight" Legacy Genetic String: Can be used within Legacy Alpha Compies inventory to summon 1 random Legacy Dino at the cost of the Compy! or be consumed by player or dino for an instant 25 HP and 50 Food Lesser Pymy Evo Kibble: 33% Chance To Evolve Most Tamed Non Pygmy Dinos Into a Prime/Mega Pygmy (Rerolls all Traits and clears corruption) -- Only found as a drop from boss kills Pygmy Evo Kibble: Evolves Most Tamed Non Pygmy Dinos Into a Prime/Mega Pygmy (Rerolls all Traits and clears corruption) -- Only found as a drop from "Champions or Mega Uber" boss kills
Corrupted Genetic String: Very Rare, gained from Higher Tier Corrupted Primes, Golden Dodos, but more likely to drop from Megas. Used for crafting advanced items or given to "ANY" dino "ONCE" which will add a corruption trait of +/- 25% additive value to an existing traits overall value.
Greater Genetic String: Very Rare, gained mainly from Uber Megas but other bosses can drop them as well such as Primes, Megas, Bounties & Ubers. Ubers are summoned from the Summoning Shrine. When given to any dino gain between +5-10% on any current total trait value. Greater Strings can be used up to 3 times on a single dino. Its not guranteed you will get to use it more than once per dino!
Overcharge Genetic String: When damaged, 33% chance per hit taken to gain 25-75% Damage Increase / 5-25% Damage Reduction / +2-3% MAX HP Per Sec (up to 250 HP per sec) -- This item can be fed to ANY dino type! Does not require a rider to proc ability!
Paragon Orb: Crafted, or can be gained from Uber Megas or Uber Primordials! Used for crafting advanced items or given to "ANY" dino up to 3 times if that dino does not already have 3 natural traits. Additionally can be used to boost bosses damage and damage reduction when summoned from the Summoning Shrine! Paragon Elixir: Crafted, guaranteed to give +1 Natural "POSITIVE" trait + Unique Trait on the 3rd use. NOTE: Pay close attention to what traits your dino already has, if you have 3 or more (A) traits elixir cannot be used!
Hunting XP Orb: Crafted, used to store up to 5000 Hunting Experience, Orbs are reusable and can be given away while full or empty. It is best to keep your Hunting Experience stored in these orbs when not in use! NOTE: Hover over orb after use to see stored hunting experience amount! HP Regen Elixir: Regenerates 2.5% of your max HP per second for 10 seconds -- Capped at a max of 750 HP per second for a dino that has a maximum of 30k HP or more! Cleansing Elixir: Completely clears "ALL" traits except "Crippled Flight and Sterile". potentially re-rolling new (W) traits and allowing you to adding/gain new traits! (NOTE: Dino cannot already be Prime/Mega or Pygmy)
Trait Extraction Dart: - Trait Extraction Dart (uses vanilla one shot rifle) -- Possible extracted traits: (W), (N), (UW) -- (Every wild dino has a chance to extract one of each listed trait category) (lower tiered dinos have a lesser chance at successful extraction) -- Only used on KO'ed wild dinos! (Yes, using narcotics has a purpose again)
Trait Extraction Elixir: - Chance at extracting traits from any non pygmy tamed dino at the cost of the dinos life! -- Each dino has a weighted extraction chance! (Primos are guaranteed to give 1 of each of their traits!) NOTE: Lesser dinos have a very small chance at a successful trait extraction due to their low value! -- The more traits the dino has the better the chance at gaining 1 or more of those traits!
Paragon Extraction Dart: - Can be used on ANY tamed non pygmy dino! -- Cannot be used on Clones or Wild Dinos! -- Kills host after Paragon has been extracted! Corruption Crystal Dust: Crafted, used to craft Paragon Orbs/Elixirs NOTE: Can breakdown 1 CCS into 6 Corruption Crystal Dust (CCD) Corruption Crystal Shard: Cannot be craft, instead you receive CCS from Corrupted Primes, Mega and above! CCS has many use function! Corruption Crystal: Crafted, best used on the players tool belt as a passive 10% increase for dino and 25% damage reduction for player! Additionally it gives +5 HP per sec & clears 10 Torpidity per sec! Warlord Crystal: Crafted, best used on the players tool belt as a passive 15% increase in dino and player damage! NOTE: - Warlord Fragments are gained from "Mega Champions and some Tier 5 Megas" which can only spawn from killing a Mega when your creature has Paragon lvl 10 and the "Warlord Perk buff"-
Tyrion Crystal: Crafted, best used on the players tool belt as a passive 25% damage reduction and 30% damage increase = 20HP per sec for "medium" sized tamed dinos within 75 meters of ridden dino (NOTE: Values are doubled for "SMALL" sized tamed dinos at 50% DR & 60% DMG and + 15HP per sec) NOTE: - Dinos that are ridden by allied/tribed players will "NOT" receive this perk within 75 meters of host unless they also have the "Tyrion Crystal" -- "ONLY" unridden tames receive the perk. Fragmented Artifacts: Dropped by "Infested" "Extra Loot" "Extra XP/Loot" dinos early game (use the Awesome Spyglass or Super Spyglass to locate dinos with one of those buffs). Mining forge will also randomly gather them! Misc Elixirs: Crafted, these elixirs as described by their tool-tip give temporary perks and best used right before battle! Misc Genetic Strings: Dragon/Manticore/Wyvern/RockDrake all "REQUIRE" the genetic string of their class fed to them to allow "riding" (NOTE: Obtained by killing that dino type) Summoning Tokens: Gained from Golden Dodos, Bounties, and Mega Champions - spawning a range of higher tier dinos within a specific level range (NOTE: Automatically tames to the one who uses the item) NOTE: Mega Champions must be "Corrupted" to have a chance at dropping a High Tier Summoning Token! Enhanced Armors: Dropped by "Seekers" "Golden Dodo" "Bounties" "Mega" and above - see: Enhanced Armors Saddles: Saddles offer no armor! (Manticore Enhancement Part/Saddle can be crafted at level 80, use "X" or press R3 if using a controller) Legacy Deathworm Horn: 50% chance to gained from killing a "Legacy Deathworn" -- Used to allow creature summoning legacy dinos X summoning ability! Structures
Summoning Shrine: Allows the summoning of end game bosses, recylcling of enhanced armors for element, re-rolling crafted enhanced armors. Summoning Shrine is the most efficient way to farm bosses for resources if you have a powerful enough dino and resources to summon them!
Mining Forge: Forge is powered by 1 Corruption Crystal Shard per every 30 minutes. Select which output you desire and the forge will automatically extract the resource of your choosing, this is very useful and efficient way of passive resource gather. You can place one every 50 meters apart. Aside from the selectable items the forge will randomly extract black pearls, element shards, and artifact fragements... regardless of your mining selection. Advanced Crafting Station: All DinoOverhaul X items are crafted at to include vanilla items! NOTE: - Requires "fragmented artifacts" which initially can be found on dinos with Extra Loot, Extra XP, or both to include Infestation festers & Empowered Dinos! Supply Crates: Supply crates "lvl 60" and above have a chance to give DOX specific items! Dynamic Systems & Notables Dino Trait Power: This is your rideable dinos - "Armor/Damage Reduction", "Damage" and "Speed" (All values are additive)
Dino Pygmy Power: Same applies as the above ^ , BUT when combining both value pools it either becomes multiplicitive as shown below
NOTE: - Damage Reduction operates with deminishing returns, as the base decimal value gets smaller i.e. 0.9, 0.8 = 10%, 20%, the total value becomes less as its a % of the total base decimal value.
Example: As shown by the UI below (reference only not acutal values) - Dino Trait Power (Damage Reduction) = -7.5% + Dino Pygmy Power (Damage Reduction) = 75% (NOTE: 75% is the cap for damage reduction on any one stat pool) when combined -7.5% is 5.6% of 75% which = 70.8% (When combing seperate value pools it factors off the current % value). Since 75% Damage Reduction is the cap we can reach, adding a "Superior Genetic String" and gaining "Tough Trait" which adds 5% Damage Reduction would do nothing as the cap is already reached and only factors into its own value pool, not the difference of what was add by the "Dino Pygmy Power" values, meaning you would still be at 70.8% Damage Reduction between the two values!
Dino Paragon Power: Paragon is earned through kills, each time your dino kills another creature it earns paragon experience, the more challenging the creature and/or higher its level the more paragon experience is earned towards 1 paragon level. Each paragon level gives between 1.5-3% damage and damage reduction with a maximum potential of 30% at paragon level 10
Enhanced Armors: See "Enhanced Armors Tab" for specifics When mounted Enhanced Armors combine with all stacked powers in the same way described above
NOTE: All trait powers will be displayed on various UI's equalling a total avg power rating being the sum of all 3
values divided by 3!
Breeding Groups: Breeding groups are limited to "5" females with an unlimited amount of males, new groups can be formed, but must be atleast 25 meters away!
Breed Count: Small/Medium/Large Female Dinos have a range of breeding amounts with smaller dinos being able to breed many more times than a large dino, once the female reaches "sterile" she gains 15% Damage Reduction and can no longer breed that dino, instead with the extra 15% Damage Reduction use that dinos as a fighting type (later in progression "Sterile Potions" will drop as loot allowing you to make any gender dino sterile). Breed Amount Variance: Large Medium Small 3-9 10-30 20-45
Traits Cont.: As described above, traits are the main source of power, earning those traits "naturally" through battle is the best way to gain the most power vs feeding artifical (A) traits. You can gain a total of "3" natural traits and "3" more through artificial traits which are given by the player. As you progress further you can further enhance those traits as described above in "Items & Consumables". Breeding dinos is the best way at maximizing efficiency since mutations can additionally help! Corruption: Corrupted dinos will have a purple haze giving their host 1.5-3x increase to their overall scaled damage and up to 55% damage reduction! Warlord: Warlord is gained permanently after a single tamed creature reaches Paragon Level 10, your dino gets a 5% damage increase perk on top of the paragon perks. Additionally this will allow "Mega Champions" to spawn at a 50% chance after killing a Mega Dino.
Seekers: Starting at player level 99+ you have a chance at being targeted by "Seekers", between 1-4 enhanced dinos will spawn nearby continually attempting to target you. Seekers are a great sources of loot if properly prepared to kill them, Seekers only live for 15 minutes. Ensure your living location is fully enclosed! Overlord Flyby: Nothing good ever comes when the Overlord flies by, but if you can defeat those who chose to follow its influence you will gain great rewards! Empowered: Overlord warps the minds of dinos across the Ark creating chaos and fury in some dinos, seeking and destroying any creature they come across! NOTE: Chance to drop fragmented artifacts! Doppelganger: Overlord chooses 1 victim and bestowes upon them a Doppelganger dino which spawns near any player between levels 58+ (NOTE: Only players on ridden tames will be targeted as it creates a roid raged clone of your ridden tame...) Doppelganger Breakpoints: - Player level 58-77 (Low) / 78-97 (Med) / 99+ (High) NOTE: This means you will receive a doppelganger that is around your perceived power level! (NOTE: If your settings are boosted where you hit level 90 in 30min... you might be in trouble...) NOTE: - Drag weight, player level, dino level all play a factor into the reward received with each breakpoint offering more reward on top of the described criteria! (Legacy Dino Genetic String can be part of the loot pool for Med/High) NOTE: - Med/High requires a drag weight dino of 250 or higher for loot reward, low is 200 drag weight! Below that drag weight only XP will be rewarded!
Bounties: Random occuring events every ~1-1.5 hours with a limited amount of time to collect on the bounty. Loot provided is a medley of items in higher quantities and variety than any one boss type. Bounty dinos are around the same strength level as a Mega. NOTE: - Bounty Bosses can roll up to 150x on base melee
Golden Dodo: Loot pinata, spawns every 1-1.5 hours, think of it as a loot goblin which actively runs while you chase it down to get its loots. Be aware that once you inflict damage there is only 8-12 seconds before it flashes out of existence! NOTE: Killing a Golden Dodo increases Globally buff dinos to spawn at a 50% higher chance for 30min.
World Bosses: World bosses referred to as "Primordials" are the current end game boss, they are on their own spawning system and are limited to only a few per each type at any given time. They have a very small agro radius and often the player needs to strike first to start a battle. Primordials operate in 4 phases which can be measured increments of 25% of their total HP. With each phase transistion you will receive 25% of you total HP back and the Primordial will be knocked out unconcious for about 10-30 seconds giving you enough time to regroup, re-apply potions, etc. With each phase transistion difficulty will increase with new attacks or increased frequency of attacks.
Prime/Megas: Any dino that is over a pre-determined drag weight has a small chance at turning Prime or Mega. This can only happen when the area the player is in, is rendered and dinos are active or when new dinos spawns occur in that active area. NOTE: When corrupted level and dragweight matters for chance at gaining a corrupted genetic string! For example a Corrupted Prime must be dragweight 250+ and level 100+ NOTE: - Tek unlocks can be obtained by killing mid-high tier Megas, while random and not guranteed it can take many Mega kills to obtain your first Tek unlock! Legacy Alpha Dinos: Can be found and tamed only when their health is below 10% of maximum! Once below 10% and taming starts, health can increase above 10% as long as dino does not take more than "3" hits of damage!
IMPORTANT: - When at or below 10% HP, Legacy Dino will stop attacking after a short duration allowing you to actively drop it's food of choice to tame! When HP increases above 80% they will become aggressive again! NOTE: - Legacy Alpha Dinos are some of the favorite tames from DinoOverhaul X on ASE NOTE: - Some Legacy Alpha Dinos have an "X" attack, if using a controller instead push the R3 to use ability! Additionally when evo'ed into a Pygmy they will use their range/X attacks while mounted on your shoulder!
Global Buffs: Early game loot/xp farming, these dinos will show an additional buff when viewed using the "Awesome Spyglass/Super Spyglass" mod which can give extra loots, XP, or both! Additionally there is a chance for an infested dino which when killed is reanimated into a corrupted variant and gives fragmented artifacts and other varius loots on kill. NOTE: - Caregiver & Baby adds an additional 50% DR and 30% DMG increase, this buff can be applied to any boss type which has a baby in tow
Pack/Gang Perks: A larger variety of dinos gain a significant amount of damage/damage reduction when fighting in packs/groups!
Grudge: When you attack a Boss dino (Not inlcuding Primos/Titans or Legacies) a "Grudge" is leveraged against you, which causes the attacked boss to continually seek you in this life and after your death! -- Grudge lasts for 45min or until killed! (NOTE: Can only gain 1 grudge at a time)!
Kill Streak:
Kill Streak (stacks up to 10 with a 50% damage increase or 5% per stack) -- Kill Streaks have various timers based on the dino killed, for example a dino with 26-50 drag weight only gives 3 seconds to the stack (25 drag weight or less give 0), a Mammoth for example gives 30 seconds, there are 9 total weighted tier timers
--- Kill Streak Stacks are based on an average of the "total" stack factoring in each kill up to 10 divided by your last known stack count which sets the dissolving stack time (Example: 3, 3, 3, 12, 45 = 13.2 seconds per stack -- Timer is shown as a buff) ---- This is similar to Vanilla Carcharo's "Bloodrage" but puts an actual emphasis on the quality of the kills... Low tier dinos such as dilos give 3 sec and high tier dino such as Gigas give 45 sec! ----- DOX Carcharo's gain 100% damage increase at 10 stacks! Stat Kill Tracker: "ALL" Boss kills are tracked locally and globally, seperated by your kills and all kills combined for the server for the entire duration of the worlds existence, press F12 or navigate to the pause menu!
Ambush:
(Global system during OL flyby -- Only applicable to level 101+ players) -- Titan Overlord stalks, waiting to send an ambush of nearby empowered dinos! --- Chance to be ambushed last for 120 seconds!
Corruption Necrosis Vein: Titan Overlord Flyby has a chance to spawn up to "3" Corrupted Necrotic Veins (15min life timer) -- Up to 5 waves of Mega boss dinos will spawn from damage taken
--- If Vein is not destroyed all connected players within 300m will suffer from "Necrosis" ticking 2% of players health per second!
Getting started: Simple guide to help you get up and running! NOTE: Forget what you think you know about ark and any other creature overhaul... follow these 5 simple steps! Step 1: Ignore taming anything for now! focus on establishing a homestead large enough to house around a dozen medium sized dinos... DO NOT POWER LEVEL! (Example: Building 50 rafts just to hit max level... you will later regret doing so, check out "Seekers") (recommend using a modded spyglass such as "Awesome Spyglass or Super Spyglass" as some dinos will have a "global buff" such as: "Extra XP"/Loot/or both" giving rare resources). NOTE: Doppelgangers will start spawning when your character is level 58, while mounted to a dino when the overlord event is present -- to avoid dismount your dino while the overlord event is active! Step 2: You should be around level 30-50 by the time you have up a solid homestead with all the necessary essentials to fight, feed, and house your dinos! Learn the "Hunting Experience Storage Orb" engram at the "DOX Crafting Station" (NOTE: You will need to use the mentioned spyglass in step 1 to locate "Infested Dinos, Empowered, Extra Loot, Extra XP, or both" which drop "Fragmented Artifacts") and start seeking out small Alpha dinos to farm until you gain 2-6 "Genetic Strings", use those to craft the "Hunting Experience Storage Orb". Consider crafting kibbles as high tier taming food will help reduce your "taming costs" per feed. Step 3: Focus on gaining around 3-6k taming experience, use the "Hunting Experience Storage Orb" as often as necessary to store/restore any gained XP. Locate a level 50-100 level trike or Ptero (this will cost around 3-5k XP), gender or tier does not matter. If you want to tame an Alpha Trike.. it will cost more XP per feed... you will not be evolving trikes early game... instead the trike will be used to farm more XP quicker along with basic resource gathering. Use the trike to gain another 3-6k XP and tame up an opposite gender trike... then start breeding to ensure your progression is not lost! NOTE: Always keep a breeding pair at the homestead within confined walls not visible to outside predators! Pteradons will be your next taming target, they will provide agility, exploration, and supply drop looting, as stated in step 3, work on gaining a breeding pair! Step 4: Now that you have breeding pairs of Trikes and Pteradons, start building "DEFENSE" in the form of spike walls, plant species X, turrets, or whatever you can afford at your level! Do not set your defensive structures to target everything, you dont want it to fire at a "Primordial" or some other high tier boss! Continue expanding your dino zoo, focus on breeding, gene refining, mutations, etc! This process takes time and cannot be rushed! NOTE: You may have already gathered a small amount of DOX Elixirs use those sparringly as they can offer a substantial boost in temporary power! Step 5: Zoo Keeping... you are nothing without a healthy zoo of breeding dinos! At this point you should focus on taming up the food chain, killing Alpha dinos, and increasing your stockpiles to take on larger predators such as Primes and or Seekers! In the process of doing so you will stumble across dinos that have special loots, give extra XP, or both to include "infested" dinos. Focus on dinos with extra buff indicators as previously listed, if you happen to be level 99 and seekers target you, they offer a great variety of high tier loot in the form of "Enhanced Armors, Genetic Strings, Potions, Rare Resources, etc" and are the easiest tier of boss to farm! NOTE: Without trait farming to get ideal traits for your dinos the odds of progression are nearly impossible, focus on gaining the best possible traits you can, to do so, make sure you have a health zoo of breeding dinos! Expect to die... as there is no substitute for critical thinking, planning, and execution... Best of luck survivor!

FAQ
Q: Does DOX 2 work with other dino mods? A: NO, while it may not crash your game, it will be completely unbalanced and not utilize the custom DOX systems and prevent DOX dinos from spawning!
Q: How does taming work in DOX 2? A: You earning "Hunting XP" which can be used to either "handfeed" which is preferred when taming non aggressive dinos or by dropping stacks of that dinos preferred food type/kibble. NOTE: If you dont have enough hunting XP you will not get an option to handfeed. NOTE: If you see a "purple" glow that dino did not like the food provided! NOTE: Special dinos like Pyromane, Manticores, Dragons, Rock Elementals, etc still use their vanilla or modded taming variations.
Q: Why do i keep getting "Mismatch" buff? A: Because you are fighting a dino(s) that is too far below your weight class!
Q: Does the level and type of dino matter for how its traits turn out? A: Yes and No, the dinos level has no affect on traits but you still want a high level regardless, there is 1 exception for when a Pygmy or non Pygmy dino has the Prime/Mega trait, the values have a chance of rolling higher the bigger the dino (higher drag weight). For example once you evo a Carcha to Prime (or find a Prime Pygmy Carcha or evo it to a Prime Pygmy Carcha) it can roll much higher "Tough", "Balanced", etc than when you evo a Raptor to Prime...
Q: Why is there a red sparkle glow on dinos? A: Because it freshly killed something and is unavailable for taming for a short period of time.
Q: A Herbivore i was fighting gained a green sparkling glow on low HP, and hits like a truck, why? A: Herbivores and herbivores only have a "Last Chance" perk which can initiate when below 25% HP giving them 50% increase to damage output for a short duration!
Q: Passive tame dino i am feeding just died as it lost all its food, HELP! A: You need to try and feed it the highest quality or preferred food as much as possible to prevent it from starving and dieing before it fully tames! (higher quality food also tames it quicker costing less "Hunting Experience")
Q: How do i get a Prime/Mega? The ones in the wild just want to murder me! A: You must have an "Alpha" of any dino type first, then you must gain a Prime Genetic String from killing a prime, and then you need to use that to evo your Alpha to a Prime Alpha, from there you can give it a Mega Genetic String once you killed a Mega and gained its geno!
Q: Why can i not feed my "Alpha" the "Prime Genetic String?" A: Because it also needs at least 3 non (W) Permanent traits or 3 (A) traits along with the (U) trait! Its name having "Unique" in it (Unique Alpha Dodo) is not enough and (UW) does not count, must be (U) trait! Earned by battling, eventually after taking enough hits over time from one foe or multiple you will receive the (U) trait!
Q: How do i make my dino "Unique" and gain the (U) Trait? A: While you can find wild dinos with Unique in their name and the (UW) Trait, they dont have the (U) Trait, this is obtained through gaining 3 non (W) traits via (A) Traits or naturally earned traits during battle. Once you have 3 permanent traits you will eventually gain the (U) Trait during battle!
Q: How many tiers are currently in DOX 2? A: 8: Normal*, Unique, Prime, Mega, Legacy, Pygmy, Primordial, and Alpha. NOTE: Alpha is a base Tier required to allow Evo potential.
Q: I'm on a dedicated server and see MEGA has appeared messages but do not get the coordinates when viewing my buffs screen inside my inventory but others do, why? A: The player who discovered that Mega receives those buff coordinates as a way to encourage exploration. If that player dies they lose those coordinates!
Q: What do i do with Pygmies that have bad traits? A: You can sacrifice them for a genetic string or even a greater genetic string by placing 1 Corruption Crystal Shard (CCS) in their inventory followed by punching the pygmy to initiate the sacrifice!
Q: How do i get "Warlord" Shards? A: After gaining Paragon Level 10 your dino becomes "Marked" as a "Warlord", a "Champion Mega Dino" (x1.5 scale) has a 50% chance to spawn nearby after killing any Mega going forward, the Champion will seek retribution for the many lives taken! - 30min life timer!
Q: Why am i not seeing any DOX engrams or cant place DOX structures? A: There is a current bug with vanilla game and mods (all mods not just DOX), to resolve restart steam or your console and re-log, you might have to do this a few times!
Q: My Alpha/Prime/Mega HP is not returning back to the max listed value, why? A: Modded Cryopods/Balls attempt to save buffs and variables which sometimes fails to update clientside when dino is redeployted, use a vanilla cryopod to restore values as needed! (See below Q&A for add't)
Q: Prime/Mega dinos HP keeps reseting after i uncryo them? A: DOX uses its own HP Save system for Prime/Mega Dinos
Q: Modded Spyglass says i only need "X" amount of kibble/foods, but it is actually x2 the amount or slightly more, why? A: Modded Spyglasses only account for the vanilla way of taming, food in inventory/handfeeding, kibble that requires you to drop nearby will often be x2 the amount listed!
Q: Why do i only receive 10% taming effectiveness? A: Because your playing DOX!
Q: How do i tame a Dragon/Manticore/Wyvern/Rockdrake? A: You need to find a female that is protecting a nest kill that parent and take the egg from the nest (must be level 75 or higher), Rockdrakes are the exception as you need to find a female Rockdrake which has a buff stating its an egg carrying parent!
Q: How do i evolve my Pygmy? A: You dont, you can only evolve a normal sized dino into a pygmy using one of the 2 Pygmy Evo Kibbles (See Basics tab for more info on those Kibbles) NOTE: Pygmies can be traited the same way a non pygmy is traited, but it can not be evolved into a Prime or Mega if it is not one already!
Q: Why are Boss Dinos getting in my base? A: Do not have any turrets mounted to or right next to your base, also ensure all dinos in your base are actually fully covered and not visible from outside!
Q: Does DOX 2 work on all maps? A: Yes, all official and premium maps work even non premium maps should work, but may experience issues!
Q: How do i gain more "Hunting XP" per kill? A: By increasing KillXPMultiplier=1 in your Game.ini
Q: Do summoned minions scale? A: Yes, they scale to the summoned dinos level and gain up to 50 more stat points than the summoned level!
Q: How do i initiate special X attacks? A: Press X on your keyboard or in the down direction on your left joy-stick if using a controller!
Q: Modded Spyglass says to place "food item" in last inventory slot, but the dino tries to murder me or runs away! A: Spyglasses are not always accurate, when this happens drop the taming food on the ground nearby! (NOTE: Some dinos still use the unique vanilla taming method such as Rock Golems, Dreadnoughts, Gigantoraptor, Basilisk, Dreadmare, YiLing etc)
Q: I cannot locate DOX 2 when searching for it, HELP! A: Type: "Dino Overhaul X 2" and it should be located on the first 3 pages!
Q: I am killing Alpha creatures but getting little to no Genetic String! A: Dragweight is the determining factor for your chances at getting Genetic String, Alpha Dodos, Dilos, etc are far less likely to give Genetic Strings vs Rex, Carcha, Giga!
Q: How do you disable the Stat Data HUD? A: Toggle: SHIFT+Z (console players will need to use a keyboard)
Q: I am not gaining an Hunting Experience on kill! A: Dinos typically smaller than Dodos do not give Hunting Experience! Additionally ensure the dinos in your world have a "*" in their name description, if not run a dino wild wipe!
Q: Some DOX Dinos/Features are partially not working! A: Some mods which add "UI/HUDS" or modify "Player Inputs" can cause conflicts with DOX mechanics (i.e. "Mouse Saver" or "HUDAscended")
Q: F12 is taking screenshots in game while accessing the DOX Stat Tracker using keyboard! (Steam) A: Rebind it to Shift+F12 or assign another keybinding of your choice or access the stat tracker in the pause menu!
Q: My Cryo mod is set to heal dinos while in Cryo, and reads that its fully healed but isnt when i uncryo it why? A: DOX will always apply the last know HP prior to Cryo for any dinos that are Prime/Mega trait'ed; DOX is not compatible with any cryo healing functions!
Q: My Server is experiencing a lot of lag/high ping A: Mods like "Dino Depot" has "DinoballPersistsBuffs=True" change to False, it can be done directly from any Dino Depot Terminal with mod permission via "mod configuration", but recommended directly through your gameusersettings.ini
Q: Why did my 2 Alphas hatch a non alpha baby? A: 10% chance that egg laying parents give birth to a non alpha variant!
Q: Are wild dino wipes recommended? A: No, if you are hoping to get specific dinos to spawn, instead manually kill off dinos in the area known to spawn the dino you are seeking!
Q: Should i increase max dino level above 250-300! A: NO, it was not balaced for dino base level above 300! -- Stats will not scale properly!
Q: When i clone my Prime/Mega it loses the Prime/Mega Trait and % values associated with it! A: Correct, you will need to re-add the Prime/Mega Traits back to any newly cloned dinos. Ensure you put points back in "health" stat before using the Prime/Mega String as it scales those values based on MAX HP!

Trait Planner (continued)
- See the separate Trait Planner tab to build out your configurations
- NOTE: The values shown are illustrative for reference; actual values vary per creature and trait interactions
Evolution Nugget: Evolution Tiers Overview
- Tiers (1-5) apply to Wild Megas and other special dinos; higher tiers imply tougher enemies but better loot
- Primordial and Uber variants have special rules and buff interactions
Notable Creature Variants
- Primordial Dinos: End-game bosses with 4-phase mechanics; phase transitions grant HP and control windows
- Uber Megas: Extremely powerful variants with high mutation potential
- Pygmies: Shoulder pets that scale power with trait consumption; drag weight sets their baseline for trait chance
- Legacy Dinos: Legacy Alpha comps and legacy strings for rarity dino spawning
Getting Started (Recap)
- Step-by-step starter tips are embedded in the Getting Started section, including building a homestead, locating Infested/ Empowered dinos, and stoking XP pools.
- The 5-step guide emphasizes not power-levelling early and prioritizing trait acquisition through combat and strategic taming.
Notes on Evolution and Spawning
- Basic Dinos do not evolve beyond the tame; Alpha/Legacy/Prime/Mega are gated by drag weight, genetic strings, and battle-derived traits.
- Spawns are categorized by standard, alpha, legacy, pygmy, primordial, and titan boss tiers, each with unique spawn logic, loot tables, and buff interactions.
Spawning Codes (Quick Reference)
- The document includes extensive spawn code lists for DOX dinos and items; these enable on-server testing and spawning of a wide roster of DOX dinos and items. The entries are formatted for console commands such as cheat spawndino and cheat giveitem with specific DOX asset paths.
World & Boss Lore
- World Bosses (Primordials) operate on a four-phase HP-based schedule, with each transition restoring HP and introducing new moves; failures expose players to higher risk during boss phases.
- The Overlord and Doppelganger mechanic adds a dynamic risk to mid-late game play; players confronted by Doppelgangers will see clones mirror their mounted dinos in level and power.
Final Thoughts
- The DOX2 mod pack is designed to reward strategic play: thoughtful taming, trait planning, and pest management. Expect to die, learn, and grow as you push toward end-game bosses and prime/mega evolutions.

Appendix: Annotations & References
- The document includes several references to optional tabs (Trait Planner, Basics, Items & Consumables) used to configure and tailor your experience. These notes are embedded above for clarity and cross-reference. If you need exact code blocks or particular code references, please consult the original config docs or mod readme sections included with the DOX X package.
Closing Thoughts
- DOX X 2 is a comprehensive expansion that redefines how taming, breeding, and boss fights work in Ark. The challenge is meaningful and the outcomes rewarding for players who invest the time to master the system.
