Introduction
Class Overview
The purpose of this doc is to provide a singular source-of-truth, comprehensive guide on how to play Night Lord, along with specific nuances and details about the class. By having a single source of information it makes it easier to look up specific questions a player might have, as well as prevent any misinformation, misunderstanding, and miscommunication found in other guides created by those who don’t play the class.
The contents of this doc only reflect what is live on the GMS Maplestory servers (and mostly Heroic), so some discrepancies may exist between MSEA and KMS if changes and updates have not made it to the GMS live servers; generally, there is a 6 month lag between what goes live on KMS vs. when it arrives to GMS.

Why Play Night Lord?
PROS CONS
• High and fast burst
• Mobility
• High Weapon Multiplier
• Weaker off burst DPS
• Ring of Restraint (ROR) reliant
• Glass Cannon
• Dark Sight
• Untouchable (via Showdown)
• Frailty Curse
• Must be close to boss for burst
Night Lord Boss Mules
If you want to make Night Lord as a boss mule, go for it, it’s a very fun class. Originally, it was not recommended to play NL as a boss mule. You can read the original text in the Appendix. However, this was written pre-Destiny patch, in the days when people were making ~700m - 1b / hour and star force costs were ~2x what it is today (pre-Savior). With the star force cost reduction, playing NL has become more affordable as we have the highest weapon attack multiplier in the game and sf gives flat attack. Combined with increased meso rates from boss mule meta, it costs less time now to push gear to 21 or 22.
🍄 Hyper Stats and Skills
Hyper Stats and Skills
Hyper Stats
Hyper stats are largely dependent on your own individual stats and what your character needs. You will always want to maintain 100% crit rate, but the other stats can vary based on where you are in terms of progress in the game. A popular calculator is MathBro's Hyper Stat Optimizer.
Hyper Passive Skills
I personally use the bossing setup 100% of the time since it’s annoying to change.

Ignore Enemy Defense (IED)
• See Grandis Library’s IED and PDR explanation
• Frailty Curse can give Night Lord a staggering 41% IED. This means that the visual IED required for Night Lord is lower than a lot of other classes.
• The IED required depends on the boss's PDR (
Maplestory IED Comparison Chart )
IED Requirements
With a visual IED of 95.47% and 41% IED from Frailty Curse’s, NL has 97.33% total effective IED and hits 90% dmg on 380% PDR bosses.

Note: This does not mean that anything above a visual of 95.47 IED is not worth it… it simply means that any additional IED will be less efficient. If you are min-maxing or want to know the exact FD you will gain or lose by swapping in more IED, use maplescouter.

While some NL skills give +20% IED, some of the most important NL skills do not.
Therefore, it’s better to not take into account any IED from our attacking skills.

Skill Nodes: Throw Blasting, Shurrikane, and Dark Lord’s Omen do not have +20% IED
📈 Inner Ability
Inner Ability
Ideal Bossing Inner Ability
Night Lord’s ideal inner ability is Boss Damage, Attack, and Dmg to Abnormal%.
In addition, Night Lord does not need Attack Speed +1 to reach the cap.
Devil’s advocate from Hooning’s video to use Boss Damage + 20%, Buff Duration +38%,
8% Dmg to Abnormal.
About Buff Duration
Night Lord used to need at least 50% buff duration so that Terms and Conditions lasted long enough for all stacks of Throw Blasting to be used. Due to this, we used to prefer Buff Duration +38% over Attack +21. However, Attack +21 is preferred now because:
● More sources of buff duration exist
● Sequence makes casting skills faster and therefore Terms and Conditions is more efficient
● With the v263 patch, Throw Blasting was reduced from 68 to 46 charms
● Hexa Death Star allows us to use 20 charms almost instantly
There are many buff duration sources and you should prioritize them all for a stronger burst.

Rolling the Perfect Bossing Inner Ability (Reboot)
BEST Inner Ability Guide MapleStory 2024 Ride or Die
Honor EXP Cost
Perfecting your Inner Ability is not cheap. Even with 50% Inner Ability Events, expect to spend millions of Honor Exp. See the estimated cost at MathBro’s Inner Ability Calculator.
Consider settling for non-perfect lines if you haven’t amassed Honor Exp.
If you are willing, you could also shell out some meso and save on honor.
Alternate Inner Abilities
Note: With the addition of Inner Ability presets, the viability of additional lines is also possible for just farming, but it’s ultimately your own preference on what you want to prioritize. Drop Rate on the top line is generally preferred for farming fragments, but Meso Rate is also a decent substitution.
MESO
While grinding, you may want to opt for a meso first or second line in your inner ability. This is fine and ultimately up to personal preference whether you’d trade the extra damage for the meso, or ignore one of the best in slot second lines (preferably abnormal damage) for meso while levelling. After all, we have access to enough damage to participate in and clear all the content in the game with or without an additional 8% damage or 20% crit rate.
ATTACK SPEED
Not recommended
However, if you can’t roll boss damage, another useful line, or are running out of honor, attack speed will allow you to save a node slot on speed infusion or avoid using green pot. As Night Lord does not need inner ability to cap attack speed, this line isn’t recommended to keep.
DROP RATE
Drop rate is an extremely viable IA to run, given that it affects Oz Boxes, Pitched Boss, Nodestones, and 6th job Sol Erda/Fragments
ATTACK +21
Previously, we did not use ATTACK +21. However, with the shift to DPM Meta, we do. Damage to monsters affected by abnormal statuses is strictly better than this if you are low on Honor EXP and deciding between the two.
🤝 Link Skills
Link Skills
Ideal Link Skills
This guide will only cover ideal link skills. It depends on your own personal stats to know which skills are most efficient; if you’re low on IED you might want to use the Luminous link skill; if you’re low on Crit Rate you might want to use the Phantom link skill.
What link skills you want also depends on whether you’re bossing or training. For more information on specific link skills and their effects, see Grandis Library.
Many players also use the maplescouter link skill efficiency tool.
Below is an example from my Maplescouter input as of 11/13/25.
PS. do not actually put your link skills as max in scouter, only use what you plan to use or it inflates your scouter. I only maxed them all to show an example.
Link Skill Examples
NOTE: While I have updated the screenshots below to show the new level 3 links, I have not yet updated the examples to be optimal based on all new available level 3 links yet. However, the examples below are still very good and can be used.

👕 Equips

WSE Optimization
The most common format for discussing WSE (Weapon, Secondary, Emblem) potential lines is Att/BD/IED. For example, 6/2/1 means between the 9 lines of potential on your WSE you have 6 lines of attack, 2 lines of boss damage, and 1 line of IED.
The below sections are guidelines. Use maplescouter to fit your unique situation.
Heroic (Reboot)
Rough Guideline
9/0/0 - best
8/1/0 - second best
Note: In general, both are similar, and the balance can be shifted by boss familiars. If you're not min maxing, settle with whatever you get first. All of the above doesn't matter if you luckerdog double/triple prime. Those will usually beat out any single prime.
Interactive (Regular)
This is a bit more complex as it is affected by your bonus potentials.
Assuming your bonus potentials have 21% attack or more, the optimal potentials would
- Weapon: 2/1/0
- Secondary: 1/2/0
- Emblem: 2/0/1
This is also affected by your familiars. With an IED/Boss familiar the emblem will not need IED, for example. The fewer attack lines you have on bonus potentials the more will the optimal lines look like reboot lines. It will not matter so much if you have two lines of boss on the weapon instead of secondary, it’s just that the attack % potential is a bit lower.
Weapon Soul
In terms of raw damage output, the BIS order is: Mu Gong Soul, ATT +3%, Boss Damage +7%.
I personally prefer ATT +3% since I am not min clearing and it keeps things simple.
Mu Gong Soul Ideally LUK + 7, but the skill is more important.
Increases ATT by 25% for 20 seconds.
Cooldown: 120 seconds.
Any Tier 1 Soul Weapon ATT +3%
Boss Damage +7%
Note: Mu Gong Soul must be level 2 for 20 second duration. Also keep in mind the following:
• Soul duration is not affected by buff duration from IA and legion
• The skill requires charging to use and the charge will deplete when you die
○ This also means you cannot use it in Culvert
○ In Dojo, you should be able to charge enough for 1 cast around floor 5X (need to test for specific floor)
• Mu Gong soul has a fairly long cast time, so it will take time to get used to it
• See Appendix - Mu Gong Soul for how to obtain the soul

Cooldown/CD Hat
Night Lord does NOT need a cooldown/CD hat. However, I see a lot of NLs using -2 for the QOL. -2 is even better if you can get with stat lines.
⚠️ NEW: 2 min patch testing is needed
Current thoughts right now from the NL discord are:
1. Stat hat has the strongest burst dmg (obviously)
2. Perm -2 cd hat is about equal in full rotation dpm to stat hat (extra deathstars) and provides a bit of QoL with miniburst cd
3. Perm -4+ cd hat is a little bit weaker than 1/2, but can help give a 17th burst in a mincut run.
4. Perm -4 cd hat with a stat line is about equal to a 36% stat line
5. Swap stat and cd hat is probably highest dmg output but requires 2 done eternal hats
Special Skill Rings
Using a Ring of Restraint (RoR) on burst with Totalling Ring on mini burst is best.
If you do not have a RoR, a Continuous can be an easy to use placeholder but you will not ring swap since the Cont requires charging before use.

Note: With the release of the Dreamer patch, you are now able to swap Oz rings while summons/projectiles are out. Details on how to setup the configuration to ring swap can be found in this reddit post.
Does NL need a Ring of Restraint (RoR)?
Yes. But, don’t just take my word. Here are other pros from around the Maple world:
Even asked Sugar about playing NL without a RoR:

Flames
Spratz on the NL Discord:
Easiest way to calculate flames is to transform every flame into t6 atk + x% boss
You can use different conversions to get that:
1% boss = 1% dmg = 10 stats = 1% stats
t7 diff = t6 atk + 23atk = t6 atk + 7% dmg
whackybeanz:
Use the whackybeanz Flame Calculator to view possible flame values based on item type
and level. You can also view the probability of getting better flame outcomes as
compared to your current flame values.
I created https://aaronlefkow.github.io/flamedistribution/ to help you pick values in
whackbeanz’s calculator. Better yet, you can use the unofficial WhackyBeanz Extension.

if Dark Flare is not 1 or 2 hko, you can't rely on the summons, so you will be doing
a circular rotation. After the Dreamer update, Shadow Partner now also applies to
both Erda Shower and Erda Fountain, which makes it even easier to 1 shot.
Example Node Setup
I haven’t done it yet but you should level your decent nodes to level 26 for the maximum stat boost.

1st Job
Dark Sight
Dark Sight allows you to dodge certain attacks. Night Lord obtains Dark Sight from three
sources:
Dark Sight (1st)
Activated via hotkey'd skill, lasts for 200 seconds unless canceled,
cooldown is variable - increases by 3 seconds per %hp attack
blocked to a maximum of 15 seconds
Shadow Surge (2nd)
Dashes and briefly grants the effects of darksight. Each attack
against an enemy with Assassin's Mark or Night Lord's Mark
reduces cooldown by 1 second. Can be used while casting other
skills.
Shadow Walker (5th)
Activated via hotkey'd skill, lasts for 20 seconds and will not be
canceled by attacks or skills. Cooldown 120 sec.

Part 2:
● Dark Sight: Web (Abyssal Veil)
● Dark Sight: Dash
● Showdown (Untouchable): Dash
● Poison:
○ Every 30 seconds, Will creates a poison cloud (in the form of a green aura) on the character for 20 seconds. There is no damage to the character affected by this, but the poison cloud wave coming from the green aura inflicts 44% damage per second to surrounding characters.
○ The infected character's final damage to Will increases by 30% during the duration.
○ If the character with the aura does not inflict damage to Will more than a certain number of times for about 10 seconds, ignores all resurrection skills and invincibility skills and kills you instantly.
○ If an infected character dies for any reason, the aura is transferred to another random survivor and a poison cloud is left where the infected character died. The poison cloud also inflicts damage proportional to health, and the aura's duration is not reset. The poison cloud disappears when the aura's duration ends.

Hyper Stats and Skills (continued)
- Hexa Stat Efficiency and related matrices are discussed with a variety of best-practice recommendations.
- Origin: Life and Death is introduced as a crafting/guiding concept for early rotations and for Buckets of burst windows.
Appendix - 3 Minute Culvert
Culvert (V1A)
A good way to tell when throw blasting is about to hit 60 seconds is to use buff favorites:
Too early
right before the shadow hits above 68
Too slow

Culvert (V2) - Crisis HM
While there is an uber optimal rotation using 5 oz rings as seen in this video, it is up to you whether you want to go for it, those optional steps to do so are listed in BLUE below.
Note that you should be liberated or have a Krr ring. There are many ways to set up Crisis HM, this is just one method.
The rings you need to use the strategy below are:
• Crisis HM 4
• Health Cut (any level)
• Limit (any level - the flat health cost scales with level)
Alternate timings if you’re using a CD hat are also below in RED.
Continuous 4 is also a viable entry ring, setting it up is much simpler now that there is a dummy in the room. Basic attack the dummy approximately 3 seconds before entering.
Preparation before entering Culvert
Legion Grid
• Level 200 Mercedes for Skill Cooldown -5%
• Ensure that you do not have Aran or Evan legion blocks in your grid
Buffs
• Decents: Make sure your pets haven’t just used your decents so they can be used when you enter the waiting room
• External Buffs: Organize in inventory for faster buffing
Potions
• Ensure that you have regular mana potions
• If you use auto HP/MP, ensure that you do not have potions in your auto MP slot. You can leave your auto HP slotted on but for it to work, you will have to be iframed until you activate Crisis HM. If you take a “miss” while your HP is under your autopot threshold, you will still drink a potion.

Marks and
Familiars
Use these first so you don’t forget later
Assassin’s Marks
Summon Familiars
Throw Blasting Pop Throw Blasting (The 90s duration will leave you 60s to buff up)

Potions
Use your Health Cut and your Limit ring, you want to be between 25% and 30% HP.
Use mana potions until you have about 3500-4000 MP.
Start casting frailty curse to stack and maintain Ark link.
Your goal is to be at approximately 3000 MP when you enter.
Epic
Adventurer When throw blasting reaches 60s, use EA and MG
Fatal Strike
Punch the air at 35s (+ CD hat) for fatal strike. Make sure you face left, do not hit the dummy in the waiting room as it will waste throw blasting stacks
Enter Enter the altar when throw blasting reaches 25s (+ CD hat)
How to burst while inside the Boss room
On Entry Dark Flare and Frailty Curse
Gene iframe Use gene iframe before the first attack from the boss
Normal Attack
Attack the boss little by little until it does not instantly die anymore
Between stages 2 and 5, use Erda Nova Bind as this costs 15% hp. Your
hp will now be between 10% and 15% and Crisis HM will activate once you use last resort
Mini Burst
AB Link and Last Resort buffs
Second Oz Ring
Shurikane and Omen
Waiting Normal Attack until 81s
81s left
Frailty Curse
If not using Cont4, swap to RoR after fatal ends
61s left Origin
55s left Seren and Will
51s left Spread Throw EA MG
41s left Frailty Curse
31s left Shadow Walker
20s left Throw Blasting should be coming off CD
Full Burst Pop everything and full burst with Ror3/4 in the last ~16s
Note: GMS buffs can be extended by server lag. Notably Fatal Strike, with a duration of 2s normally, often can be extended to 4s or more. Other skills can also be extended similarly. Play with the timings above and with different channels if you like minmaxing.

Appendix - Mu Gong Soul
Mu Gong Soul
In terms of raw damage output, the BIS order is: Mu Gong Soul, ATT +3%, Boss Damage +7%.
I personally prefer ATT +3% since I am not min clearing and it keeps things simple.
Mu Gong Soul ideally level 2 for 20 second duration. See the Mu Gong Soul appendix for how to obtain the soul.
