Necromancer Guide - Zoomancer
For those looking for HP stacking guide, here is the message link to both guides made by the
other Necromancers:
- modzilla’s Lifestacker guide
- Fal’s Lifestacker guide
(Both of which, including this document, can be found pinned in the #necromancer-discussion
channel on Discord)
For those interested, I have written a FAQ on Discord, here is the link. It should contain
almost every question you may have and if not, ping me and I will add it if it’s a common
question.
Introduction
Any changes I make can be found under Changelog < (click here if you can’t find it)
Necromancer can be played in various ways:
- Poison
- Lifestacking /w legions
- Summoner (this guide focuses on the “Zoomancer” part of it)
The buffs Legions got with lifestacking makes them a very strong contender for both leveling, farming and potentially bossing. Bossing will take you quite a lot of crit damage to deal a significant amount, due to the aura ticking at a set rate, meaning, ATK Speed is more or less useless (from sources like frenzy or minion mastery augment).
Arcane items are, as per usual, very expensive, so prioritize lifestacking first and prioritize getting to H5 farming power (one-shotting or at most two-shotting enemies).
Abbreviations:
- CDR = Cooldown Recovery
- FCR = Faster Cast Rate
- GKG = Gem King’s Garb
- GC = Grand Charm
- BiS = Best in Slot (means, best gear possible in that slot)
Minimum CDR Calculation:
- Abomination Set, 25%
- Hero Levels, 20%
- Tarethiel’s Ancient Wisdom, 15% - 30%
- Gabriel’s Dauntless Vision, 30% - 50%
- (GKG /w 6x Pristine Amethysts, 30%) - No CDR with Jupe’s
- Pendant of Eternity, 15% - 25%
Total (Min rolls): 135% (105% with Jupe’s)
Total (Max rolls): 180% (150% with Jupe’s)
Additional sources for CDR if you’re not at 180% yet:
Sovereignty with CDR base, Etherwalks/Ninja Tabis with CDR base, Chaos Gemstone with
CDR, Mythic belts with CDR, Grand Charms with CDR, Hel runes (only slot if absolutely
necessary)
Why 180%?
Frenzy uptime is, unironically, your best buff to have high amounts of attacks from your mages, so having 100% uptime on it (aka, 25 seconds cooldown instead of 70 seconds) means you need 180% CDR (minimum, higher and you surpass the duration). Higher Attack Speed = More chances at spawning illusions = More damage.
When you press the Summon Frenzy skill, please do NOT press any other skill at the same time, otherwise your Summon Frenzy will be on cooldown and not be active.
Attributes
Full Intelligence. No Vitality, no Energy, full Int - you get enough life and mana by other means, you may need it earlier, so I recommend a 2/1/1 split (Int/Vit/Energy) until you have gear that allows you to go full Int.
Stats to focus on for endgame (priority in that order):
- All skills/Resistances
- CDR (until 160%, max 180% > allows you to have 100% uptime on frenzy, having more isn’t gonna hurt you)
- Arcane Skill DMG%/Magic Skill DMG%
- Vitality/Intelligence
- Crushing Blow (Ninja tabis are at this point perfectly fine to have, 100% uptime on frenzy allows you to pretty much always have 5 stacks)
Remember - if you die, you do no damage. Prioritize your resistances and survivability, your minions will do the work for you.
Starter Help / Progression
Level 1-35: Use anything you’re comfortable with
Level 35-100+: HP Stacking + farming for CDR gear and all skills
Endgame: HP Stacking (follow the other guides, links at the top) - Zoomancer
Note: HP stacking can be used indefinitely, including bossing, however it is weaker and it is more tedious to set up (includes snapshotting, gear swapping and other means to increase damage).
Important Note: Legion only needs 1 point since HP stacking scales off of your HP, not the legion’s HP
HP Stacking until you have gear that can have 160% CDR and minimum 45+ levels of Summon Frenzy (Early on, put 20 points into frenzy)

F.A.Q. - Necromancer
When do I swap from HP stacking to Zoomancer and do I have to swap?
You swap once you have the following requirements and items:
- 160%+ CDR
- Frenzy level 40+
- Gem King's Garb with 6x pristine amethysts
- Pendant of Eternity with high CDR if possible (magic dmg is nice too, but not your focus at this
point)
- Tarethiel's Ancient Wisdom charm with high CDR
- Gabriel's Dauntless Vision with high CDR (prioritize that over all other things, including sockets
and all skills)
- Abomination Set
And no, you don't have to swap, but it's advised, since HP stacking has a way lower damage ceiling
For those unaware what that means, in a lot of games, "floor" and "ceiling" are used to determine something's power.
For example, if you have High Floor and Low Ceiling this means, your starting damage is very high but your potential is not that high, meanwhile a Low Floor and High Ceiling means your starting damage is very low, but your potential is very high
What is Snapshotting? (HP Stacking build only)
Snapshotting means, the game calculates your damage based on a certain time. In other games, for example, certain buffs that may have a duration can be snapshotted, which means, (as example) if the buff usually stays for 5 seconds, it would now hold for the entire time of the snapshotted skill.
In our case, you can snapshot your current HP. Everytime you change zones/vote reset, the legions take your current HP and calculate their damage based on that. Once you enter a new zone, the calculation happens again. At this point, you can swap your gear to more Crit based gear to benefit from the snapshotted HP and now from the higher Crit.
How do I get XYZ gear?
Press ESC, you will see 5 buttons up top, the second one (a book symbol) will show you how to get everything and whether or not it is obtained via a special way. This includes crafting gems.
Common gems to craft:
- Wilrden Jewel (for HP stacking, increases life by 7%)
- Angelic Gem (for Zoomancer, gives +1 All Skills)
- Chaos Gem (for Zoomancer, gives +20 Intelligence and 10% Magic Skill Damage)
- Elemental Gem (for both, gives +10 All Attributes)
How do I progress efficiently?
From level 1 to 35, it will be a struggle. At level 35, your skill "Summon Damned Legion" unlocks a certain node in the subskill tree called "Crimson Aura" (Top Middle). Use it to level yourself to 100, maybe even further. Do not bother with getting arcane gear early on, arcane is incredibly hard to make work compared to HP stacking
Does HP Stacking do enough damage for Inferno?
Yes. However, Zoomancer outdamages HP stacking extremely hard with enough gear, while HP stacking has its limits. Carefully consider what you want to do.
If you want to go for Zoomancer, this is the guide for you
If you want to go for HP Stacking all the way, check Modzilla's guide
How do you get that many summons?
This goes back to the first one, we snapshot the +2 Summon Amount from the weapon Necrobutcher's Curse. You summon all your summons while having this weapon equipped and then you swap your gear to your main equipment (depending on what you play, for Zoomancer ideally you have one of these three: Sovereignty, The Dawn Bringer, Damien's Corrupted Head and the Gabriel's Unholy Oath shield).
Additionally, there is a charm set called Abomination's Defiled Organs (consists of: Abomination's Heart, Abomination's Brain and Abomination's Eye)
WIP - If more FAQs come up, I will add them here
Item Progression
Earlygame (H1 to H5)
Key items:
- Weapons: Darkness (C-Tier Satanic, make sure it’s turned on in your loot filter if you go for this)
- Shields: Sacred Aegis/Wall of the Legion/King’s Tower Shield/Gem Encrusted Tower
- Helmets: Faceless Priest/Pit Lord’s Vanquisher
- Boots: Any 4 socket with life on it, even better if they also come with Crit Damage (slot 4x Wilrden gems or Jah’s if you have)
- Armor: Fortress (Runeword), Any that give you Life, Crit Chance, Crit Damage
- Gloves: Any that give you Life, Crit Chance, Crit Damage
- Belt: Any that give you Life, Crit Chance, Crit Damage (For those who can, Girdle of Eternal War is very good, but only accessible on trade and costs quite a bit, otherwise, take any purple with the aforementioned stats)
- Amulet: Raven’s Claw
- Rings: Elven Grace
- Charms: Anubis’ Ankh Charm, Any Grand/Large Charms with Crit Damage, Crit Chance and/or Life%, fill small 1x1 spaces with Small Charms with Vitality
Zoomancer: Not really viable until you get specific items, use Lifestacking until you can have checked off every requirement from Midgame.
Focus on getting the key items and fill your gear with these stats (most important to least important):
HP Stacking:
Anything with HP/Life%/Vitality/Crit/Crushing Blow (up to 30% at most)
Goal: Farming H5 by oneshotting everything (HP Stacking should do that for you)
Midgame (Hell 5 to early Inferno)
You swap once you have the following requirements and items:
- 160%+ CDR
- Frenzy level 40+
- Gem King's Garb with 6x pristine amethysts
- Pendant of Eternity with high CDR if possible (magic dmg is nice too, but not your focus at this point)
- Tarethiel's Ancient Wisdom charm with high CDR
- Gabriel's Dauntless Vision with high CDR (prioritize that over all other things, including sockets and all skills)
- Abomination Set
Relics:
- Triforce, The Holy Bible, Magic Mushroom
- One of these 3:
- Amputation Kit (MS)
- Lost Wand (FCR)
- Odd Book of Spells (Magic DMG%)
Endgame (Inferno and Uber Bosses) - Zoomancer Only
Items marked in Green are BiS, Yellow are second best
Key items:
- Gabriel’s Dauntless Vision (Priorities: High CDR > Sockets > Rest)
- Gabriel’s Unholy Oath
- Necrobutcher’s Curse (+2 Summon Amount is the ONLY important stat here!)
- Torch of Shadows
- Sobek’s Fall (+3 Arcane is not super necessary, but make sure that Summon Damage is higher than 60%)
- Arcanis 2x (or 1x with 1x Rakhul’s Ritual Band*)
- Tarethiel’s Fall with CDR (or Pendant of Eternity. If you don’t get CDR on Fall, you need Pendant)
- Monstrosity Augment level 7 (your body should either be Gem King’s Garb by now or St. Jupe’s Plate of Command)
- Etherwalk (BiS excluding Grimwalkers, if you can get Grimwalkers, it’s better) - CDR Base if necessary (if you’re below 180% CDR, you need CDR base, if you are above, you don’t have to unless you aim to change out some items)
*Rakhul’s Ritual Band is theoretically BiS if you have a St. Aaron’s and is farmable)
Socketables:
- 1x Angelic Gem where you can (including Gabriel’s Dauntless Vision)
- As many Chaos Gems that you can fit, potentially one or two Jah runes to increase your HP if you feel too squishy
- 6x Pristine Amethysts IF you have a GKG, if you run Jupe’s, add the aforementioned gems
Items to get to full build:
- St. Ahto’s Diamond Hands (Necrocaller’s Grips)
- Damien’s Corrupted Head (Ideally with +Arcane Skills, Arcane/Magic Skill DMG%, FCR or CDR - it rolls with FCR already, but any stat can technically roll on top, even -enemy res, but that should be capped by the time you hit endgame. Regardless of roll, it is better than The Dawn Bringer and it drops from Uber Damien on Inferno, making it more accessible too)
- Chaos Gemstone with CDR
- Tablet of Awakening (1x Angelic Gem and 3x Elemental or 1x Elemental + 2x Chaos or 3x Chaos)
- St. Aaron’s Eternal Rage (main focus is -% to enemy resistances and all skills, magic skill damage is not as important due to monstrosity being essentially permanently up)
- Torstein’s Anvil
- Annihilator
- Fulgurite
- Arcane Pumpkin
- El Patrón’s Madness (Liquor Holster gets dethroned as BiS if you have a St.Aaron’s Eternal Rage 2x or with a Rakhul’s Ritual Band)
- St. Jupe’s Plate of Command (new as of S6)
Augments:
- Monstrosity is your best option for damage
- Spell Slinger, if you don’t mind losing a little bit of damage but gaining a lot of FCR (for clearspeed)
- Minion Mastery is good for early H5/Inferno, but your goal should be one of the two above
My S5 setup
- this is NOT the BiS gear anymore, refer to the gear above! (will update to S6 once I have everything, I play in Blood Pact so refer to the list up top for S6 endgame gear)
Gear
Helmet: Gabriel’s Dauntless Vision
Amulet: Tarethiel’s Fall (with CDR)
Mainhand: Sovereignty /w +5 Base + Gabriel’s Unholy Oath
Offhand: Necrobutcher’s Curse
Armor: Tayrel’s Chestplate
Rings: St. Aaron’s Eternal Rage + Rakhul’s Ritual Band
Belt: Liquor Holster
Gloves: Necrocaller’s Grips
Boots: Etherwalk /w CDR Base (24% in my case, 20% is fine if you run GKG)*
Potions: Vodka, Death, Wizard (temporarily, for FCR), Cognition (temporarily, for XP)
- Wizard and Cognition are subbed out for > Ghostly and Prismatic Potions (Prismatic for Amun Ra, otherwise you can stick to Cognition or the MF one)
Charms
Arcane Pumpkin, Abomination’s Set, Chaos Gemstone /w CDR and Arcane skills, Annihilator, Tablet of Awakening, Torch of Shadows, Fulgurite, Torstein’s Anvil, Tarethiel’s Ancient Wisdom, GC +4 All skills Necromancer, Sobek’s Fall
Note: Jah Runes in the helmet are just for more HP, I’m at 11k atm lol (it serves no purpose other than surviving longer I guess…sometimes CTs can hurt)
Skill setup
This part is for Arcane Necromancer (also called “Zoomancer” due to the amount of minions), for HP stacking, refer to the other pinned messages in the Hero Siege Discord.
There are 2 subskill trees you can use in S6, one is for high single target damage (which also works in AoE) and the other is for mass amounts of minions (also very potent, but does indeed do less damage and lags more, this was my S5 setup, I played around a bit more and found a new, improved and much better performing setup)
I recommend using the first image, the second one lags, does good damage (less than the first) but you have a lot of minions if you really want that. Its benefits are:
- Better FPS
- Higher DPS output
- Faster clearspeed and bossing
Link to both: https://imgur.com/a/xTqwRWY
- Second image is only for those who want a mass army of minions, it is viable for clearing and bossing, but lags a lot more due to the sheer amount of attacks
Point distributions are as followed (the moment you swap to arcane/zoo) you should put them like this:
- 20 Points into:
- Raise Skeleton Mage
- Summon Mastery
- Summon Frenzy
- Summon Vengeful Spirit
- 11(10*) Points into:
- Raise Skeleton
*(Note: 10 points if you put 1 point into “Corpse Explosion”)
- 1 Point into:
- Meat Shield
- Amplify Damage
- Meat Bomb
- Life Tap
- Summon Resistances
- Summon Damned Legion
- Poison Breath
- Cursed Ground
- Poison Nova
Hero Levels
Priority:
- XP (Top branch, bottom right)
- CDR (Middle, right branch)
- Magic Damage (Bottom left, first small branch)
- Glyphs or Charm slots, highly depends on your current gear
- Closer to early gear > Glyphs
- Closer to endgame gear > Charm slots
